The days of people enjoying being able to run past others like theyre a ghost in the wind are over, people want to be able to interact with other players, without being able to do so it ruins the point of it being an MMO.

Fallout 76, no mans sky, cyberpunk 2077, battle royales, GTA online, Dark souls, they hype behind all those games proves to me that right now people would play an immersive, full PVP, no hand holding, action combat mmo if designed correctly and not marketed as an mmo. I think right now, people are itching for a mmo type of game. Look at something like Mortal Online or Ultima. I'd argue the mmos that last the longest and turn out the most successful are the mmos that DONT try to cater to every childish quality of life request and keep their mmos strict to the schtick they started out with. No they don't at all, some of the oldest mmos are still around to this day because of their cult following.
